Yods, a question if you don't mind. What type of hand grenade did we manufacture? Our reservist armory has Mk. 2's, M-67's and M-61's. don't recall any of them with "CRESER" markings. Where on the grenade would the "creser" marking be? Just curious. two rifles

Should be in the body.  Mk. 2s are locally made.  If it's OK with you, maybe you can send us images again with a ruler or measuring tape beside the subject.

I've also seen Mk.26s in AFP use...aside from Mk. 2, 61 and 67.  I think we also have Belgian PRB hand grenades in AFP use.

Full name of company:

Creative Self Reliance Enterprise, Inc.

Gents,

This was simply too good to have buried in a very general SRDP thread. So I broke this off from this:

http://timawa.net/forum/index.php?topic=8963.30

Am also adding this thread to the SRDP thread index:

Yup, quite confident that we at least manufactured the Mk.2 locally.  I am not sure though about the grenades with similar configuration to the MK. 26, 61 and 67 - if we locally manufactured them.

Sirs ask ko rin, do we still need grenades? Kasi parang wala ako makita dito sa forum na may nag point-out na ginagamit pa. Naisip ko rin iyong usage sana ng granada sa July 10 ambush wherein the pinned down Marines could have thrown grenades towards the enemy thereby disorienting them.

Hand grenades is among the weapons in short supply in the AFP....even smoke and CS grenades are in short supply.

LRB has stun grenades.

Hand grenades fill a "capability gap" that grenade launchers don't have.  Remember that an M203 round has a minimum arming distance since it needs to have a certain number of spins in its flight toward the target before it arms itself.  It also is very useful for targets in defillade or in confined spaces in an urban setting.

Just called up the Msgt. in charge of our reservist armory to ask the full range of grenades available. He said Mk.2, M61, M67, M2 Offensive grenade and some smoke grenades. He also said there used to be plastic-cased belgian PRB grenades as well as the V40 golf-ball-sized grenades but has to look for them pa. No m26's but he said that the M26 is just the M61 without the 2nd safety clip. Will try to take pics of what is available this weekend with a ruler for scale. I hope cebuboy helps me on this!

Its saddening to hear that grenades are not usually issued na, but my Msgt. said they had a lot of those grenades disappearing, sos the higher-ups decided to stop issuance na except to elite units like the SR's and Special Forces. If I were in the front lines now, I sure would wish to have hand-grenades available. jeez

But at times it makes you wonder, how come robbery suspects ends up with grenades on their possession, drunks ending blown-up after a drinking spree, kids killed after playing they thought were toys, and gangs killing each other using those?

Hey, wait a minute. Am I reading these posts correctly? Do you mean to say our troops in the field don't carry hand grenades?  Confused
Thanks for the clarification.  Smile

Tsk-tsk.  How about issuing the grenades only to frontline troops when they are just about to go to battle?  Of course, the problem there, would be how to get those back, if the units have to be pulled out of frontlines ......

How are things like ammo, grenades, and sensitive equipment issued?  Do they (Soldiers/Marines) not sign for those items issued to them?

Ammo is usually not an issue for Soldiers in Iraq regarding accountability.  As for grenades, you either turn-in a whole unit or turn in a pin.  There are times that units are "flexible" considering the combat environment.
