Hello,

Its my first time to post my work here.  Here is my rendition of a Philippine Army Air Corp P-26A based at Batangas Field on Dec. 1941.

I used the Academy 1/48 kit.  Decals and markings were all custom made.

I used automotive acrylic paints to mix the True Blue 23 fuselage and Chrome Yellow Wings.  I used Gunze lacquers for the Olive Drab Patches and cowling color.  The model was weathered using enamel washes and paint chipping was done with a fine brush. Mud stains were airbrush using Tamiya acrylic paints.

Although not known to many but some of the P-26s in PAAC service retained their original liveries when the war broke out.  This aicraft was in the process if being re-painted.  Some of them were said to have flown with a combination of US and Philippine markings.  This sample had its US roundels and markings painted over with Olive Drab.

I used a combination of stretched sprue and surgical needles for the rigging.

Regards,

After they were repainted, the planes looked like this, but with the war breaking out, the painter did not have time to put on the markings, just the roundels

Great work. Automotive lacquer did you say?

How's the Academy kit?

I got a line on two PAAC P26 by hobby craft. I think it's twice as expensive and I'm not so sure about the details. But I already committed to buying 2,  so there it goes. I might just keep it as a collection. PAAC/PAF subjects rare as it is already.

Tony,

nice work! after your all grey P26 this ones is very nice!

I still have the needles but of curse, very buzy at work, kaya walang posts lately...

ANS,

Hehehehe...P 12 ni tito ting aquino yan; yung P12 na earth and red, pati yung PT17 at yung P26 na camo sa webpage na pinagkunan mo nya, yn mga gawa kong pangit...

mondo,

only 1 zero was allegedly shot down by villamor; another i think was by kare (?); the P26 kits in 48 scale are all good; for the 72 scale, revell is kinda rare but quality is not too good; Pavla has resin but is very costly by Philippine standards. o mon, may nakita ka nananamang project na gagayahin...

Its the same mold.  The difference is the decals / markings.  If you want an inexpensive alternative, go for the Academy.

Yes I used automotive lacquer paints.  Just bought the basic colors and then mixed them to the correct shade.  You have to put a primer (white will do) or otherwise the paint will peel off.

Hi Jep,
Thanks for the comments.  I have 5 more P-26s on the assembly line (both PAAC and USAAC schemes) in the Philippines.  No worries on the needles.  Just let me know when you are free.

Hi Farouk,

Thanks for the comments but I believe you can do this as well and maybe even better.  Its a nice kit to build.  You may copy the color scheme.  I have more of them to follow....

Cheers,
Tony
