Alumni from the following schools have sounded off:

  • Mapua Institute of Technology
  • University of the Philippines
  • University of Santo Tomas

What other schools were represented in the RR?

Actually, cadets from all colleges and universities (different CMTGs) part of the MCMTC (Metro Manila) can volunteer and are accepted regardless of branch of service.

That's why in one team you got PA, PC, PAF and PN trainees.

PA - FEU, UE, TIP, NU, PSBA, NCBA, SSC, SBC, CEU, AU, MLQU...
PC - PCCr, MMC...
PAF- PATTs...
PN - PMI, NAMEI, PMMS...

to name a few. With Cadres/SSRs studying on those schools ending up as contact persons by trainees for mobilizations and other events.

Well done Saver. Bravo After being away for more than 19 yrs I couldn't remember all the schools who volunteered for training with the Rainbow.
Say, do you happen to have the Anahaw IX journal ?

Sorry about not mentioning your school  Amber1. I'm with the Army group and the schools I've mentioned were mostly part of the 3rdCMTG where my Corps belong after leaving RR. The other schools I've mentioned were based on fellow trainees and cadres in my company. I too could no longer identify to what group some of the CMT/ROTC units belongs.

BTW, I'm with Anahaw X (Ft Bonifacio) and I have no copy of the Anahaw IX journal you're asking, Sorry Bro.

Thanks Saver.  thumbs up The RR was even bigger than I realized.

Was BGEN Vallejo in charge of all groups, or just the Army group?

People seeking to revitalize the ROTC program ought to revist the RR model. What do you guys think it would take to bring it back?

Given the current situation, it would actually make sense to turn ROTC into the RR program -- throw out the old ROTC program of instruction and use the RR one instead so there won't be a distinction between ROTC (all-theory) and real work (RR). In the long run it would actually be cheaper, since training would be centralized and the AFP would actually get its money's worth.

The NSTP law actually provides a foundation for it since state schools are still required to offer ROTC. All that would be needed would be an IRR that forces private schools to recognize standard ROTC benefits (e.g., scholarships, PE exemptions, etc.) when their students cross-enroll with schools that offer ROTC.

The General is the Commandant of the UP ROTC and at the same time Commanding General of the Metropolitan Citizens Military Training Command (MCMTC) which handles the various CMT Groups:

PA  :

1st CMTG - UP...
2nd CMTG - FEU...
3rd CMTG - UE, TIP, NU, PSBA, NCBA, SSC, SBC, CEU, AU, MLQU, NTC...

PC

4th CMTG - PCCr, MMC...

PN ?

5th - 6th CMTG - PMI, DLSU, PMMS, NAMEI...

PAF ?

7th CMTG - PATTs, Feati U, Adamson?

Adroth, could you expound on how RRs were more into real work as compared to an all-theory ROTC? Do you have other documents where I could read up more about Rainbow Rangers and Sunday Soldiers? Thanks.

Man, I just can imagine one of those old guards in their Berets and Vietnam era BDUs, arms around Ian, explaining what the "Rainbow Ranger" is all about. John Wayne style at the end of the Green Beret movie.

Wow... I didn't realize how complex the Rainbow Ranger reserve force concept was until I read the links and the website for the RR. Dapat sana ganito ang ROTC natin! I would've voluntered in no time kung sana more combat centric and less ceremonial yun mga training namin nung nasa college pa ako a few years ago!

My high school commandant was actually a product of the Rainbow Ranger program who joined up as active duty Army, then retired, and he proudly showed me the RR tatoo that he and his unit-mates had gotten way back in the 70s.

Also, this is the best(in my opinion) way we can build moral character and the badly needed patriotism/nationalism our youth today need! Pwede din silang gamitin in times of calamity and disasters, heck, even elections like in the past! Mas idealistic mga reservist na bata, hindi pa tainted! Siguradong magiging mahirap mandaya sa election pag reservists and na-poste na bantay sa mga election poll centers!

I think a lot of young people in this country want to help whenever they can, they just need a guiding light to follow and a way to use their energy constructively. This program would defenitely have been it if it still was in existence.
