While populating the list of Pinoy-made or modified weapons, I couldn't find a thread about the NFWS. So here's a copy of a post I made on WorldArmedForces.com (http://www.worldsarmedforces.com/viewtopic.php?t=1880).

Guess what: its the NFWS anniversary of its trial by fire.

Quote
The PN-NFWS claimed its first kills yesterday (May 15, 2005) in an encounter with the death of 7 MBGs in Jolo. The raid conducted 0430H used the PN-NFWS which resulted to 7 enemy body counts 7 M-16s and 4 M-203s recovered with no loss to marines. All kills were head shots in a range of 150 meters with the MBGs not knowing what hit them simply because they cannot see and hear thier nemesis.

Nice... This proves the rifle system concept works. Why not produce more of them locally,  develop light infantry tactics along with it and train the hell out of a couple of light infantry divisions too. (This weapon is too good to limit its use to Navy commandos only. . ) No artillery, no air support...well, some air support but for resupply only. As Mr A here said, we have to take care of the basics, right? It looks like this should be a good start.

Off topic, the guy in the pic sure could use some cammo paint on his arms and better gloves

You can't have a full division of snipers, that's just not how they are used. I will leave the explanation to mblt.

This particular rifle is already the third generation of the PMC's experiments, and there are no signs of stopping the program. If there is a need, more of these weapons will be produced.

The Scout Rangers never show what their snipers actually do in real life: from camo to positions. IMHO, it would be safe to assume that the PMC follows the same standards of secrecy.

Don't worry. This photo is just for show.

Question! Is the Philippine Army even showing any interest in acquiring the PN developed NFWS for any of its units? if half a squad of SR's operate with this babies then they truly would be scourges of the night.

Hope we'll be able to hear that the Army has indeed adopted the NFWS for their own use. It would be a waste if they don't!

Maybe the other fellow meant that a division or brigade where snipers can be trained (mother unit) and then re-assigned to other field units..like the LABDE and SR's.

Also during the second world war, Russia, and I may be mistaken had a Sniper division and the snipers from that division were utilized as I've mentioned above....but of course Sir Buford may be really saying that a whole division of snipers be used in the field all at once and of course if that is the case, then you are entirely right.

My apologies, Mr. A. I didn't know these were dedicated sniper rifles although the ghillie suit was a dead giveaway (duh!). It just looked like it was based on the M-16 and that's an assult rifle.  Also, the word "raid" was used by the snippet of the article to describe the operation and mainly, raids are lightning fast small-unit actions. This is the reason why I thought these were modified to be silenced assault weapons with added precision single shot capability.

well, if that rifle is really dedicated to sniper functions and it seems to be a good one, why limit it to the marines? it might be a marine innovation but shouldn't it be used by the army as well. and yes...chief wowowiee here has a nice idea about th sniper divison training concept.
