reported just recently, a GI complained to Rumsfeld that they're scrounging whatever scrap metal they could lay on to strap on their light skinned vehicles. Looks like they've a shortage too of armoured utility vehicles.

The question was forwarded to the GI by a reporter-friend from a small newspaper in, I think, Chattanooga as the Q&A portion was between Sec. Rumsfeld and the GIs only.  Nice strategy, though.

Just saw the latest gun truck update (12-23)

http://home.comcast.net/~manokski/PMCguntrucks.htm

What's the story with the different designs?

The page mentioned that each Marine brigade is responsible for manufacturing their own. Is each brigade responsible for the design as well?

Didn't PMC HQ come up with a single design, test it thoroughly, then send the plans to the troops?

Are the different designs part of a design contest or something? Kinda like the gun truck that survives a certain number of years wins.

i was laughing non-stop until my stomach hurt when i saw the various designs for the marine guntruck., and thats because it shows innovation and creativity on the part of the marines.
one of the designs rreminds me of the south african casspir while the other designs looks like an armoured personnel carrier.
mga matalino talaga itong mga marines. mabuhay ang mga marines!!!
ang importante sloping yung armor para mahirap tumagos yung bala and all the designs showed had sloping armor

Given how slow AFP developments are, the trucks are relatively big news.

I understand such "slow development" in the AFP... To be specific: what i don't understand  is how those trucks were designed. Can somebody explain why those were designed like that and how could those trucks be of help in the PMC mission?

These are supposed to used as convoy escorts, and would free up other PMC armored assets for other functions.

us army lesson. some companies complained that their offer for armor mods for the hummer were ignored (they kept shouting to the press and the press obligingly printed it as gospel). thruth is some designs were so bad that the extra weight caused the suspension to break down with the wheels literally falling off. what good is armor if the fleet self destruct in less than 3000 miles? also, the inspections are now done more frequently.

btw, i noticed also that the fuel tanks on those trucks were left exposed/unarmored. also, why the difference in height on those two trucks parked nose to nose? is one heavier or just bad suspension?

good points.

it seems that those are M35 trucks which were modified to be gun trucks. correct me if i'm wrong.

if such gun truck will be used as escort vehicle, do you think it will serve its purpose given the terrain and security missions we have?
