During the late 80's, I attended a defense and ammunition Fair at Philcite. There was a mockup of a twin engine turbo-prop (according to the exhibitor) aircraft which the exhibitor said will be a "Philippine designed and made COIN aircraft" they intend to sell to the PAF. I can no longer recall the name of this aircraft. Besides, what they had on exhibit was a mockup and according to the exhibitor, they have actually tested some scaled RC models of it. I remember hearing one PAF officer saying that there is "not enough hard points on the wings" (whatever that is).

The mockup on display is very similar in appearance to the FMA Pucara of Argentina. Anybody else here saw this, remember this or know about this project. Thanks.

Thats the Norlindo Project of PASF with PADC, it was a mock up 1:1 scale of the aircraft. I posted the pics before I'll try to post it again. Had Enrile aproved of it during that time we would have not gotten the OV-10 Bronco. This was a project of Captain Villaruel.

Alas, another promising project that died due to post-EDSA-I Government neglect defense projects which may have led eventually to the death of the designer.

What shows more promise given the state of the aircraft industry would be to convert types in our inventory (or  commerically available GAA if country-of-origin allows) into hardy COIN types.

This has already been done as some of our SF260s were converted into COIN attack planes by outfitting a turboprop. The PAF, as mentioned elsewhere is also working to further upgrade our AS211s with the inclusion of F8 Crusader gunsights and a GPS-aided level bombing system)

It simply means: it doesn't have enough wing PYLONS to hang weapons from, i.e., bombs, rocket pods, machine gun pods, sidewinder missiles - the more number of which increases the weapons delivery capability of the aircraft, giving it more firepower.

The Norlindo looked like the Argentine Pucara.

The Defiant 300 looked like the Tucano.

The Hummingbird was a copy of the BO-105.

Actually the Hummingbird WAS the BO105. At least 89% of it. MBB, the German company who made it threatened PADC with a class suit that is why it was scuttled. IMO most designs follow a certain "trend" in a particular era. When norlindo was being conceptualised the Bronco was the COIN plane in the market. During Defiants time the TUCANO/PILATUS variants were in vogue. The AS-211 followed the Hawks/Alpha Jet styles so with the other designs, an example is the Argentine's Pampa. The Romanian Orugan fighter was based loosely on the Jaguar and the French's F-1 and so with Kawasaki's T-2 and the its own F-1. India's Ajeet jet trainer resembles the Brits Folands Gnat. Of course Russian Fighter Jets are sometimes spoofs or of even better  design than most western countries. Examples are the TU-160 and the USAF B-1B Lancers. The list goes on. What is important to note in history bro is that the Philippines "attempted" to come up with indigenous designs to get our aviation industry going. I just hope by some stroke of luck we do get PADC back on track and develope our own aviation industry.

DEFIANT 300 (NORLINDO IV PROJECT)
EVERYBODY SAYS IT'S A REPLICA OF TUCANO,,,,ETC...BUT ITS NOT...THAT RED THING IS 100% PINOY DESIGN AND INGENUITY...FROM A DREAM OF CAPT. PANFILO V.VILLARUEL WHO LED A GROUP OF NEWLY GRADUATE AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERS FROM FEATI AND PATTS, WHO WORKED DEDICATEDLY, UNTIRINGLY JUST TO BUILD DEFIANT 300 AIRCRAFT TO SHOW AND PROVE TO OUR GOVERNMENT THAT WE FILIPINOS CAN MAKE AN AIRCRAFT OF OUR OWN. YOU SEE INIIALLY IT'S MADE UP OF SPECIAL PLYWOOD MANUFACTURED IN UP, LOS BANOS AND SOME BARROWED PARTS FROM T-34 AND BN ISLANDER AIRCRAFT AND THERE THE DEFIANT 300 WAS AIRBORN.

ME AND THE REST OF MY NORLINDO GROUP OF ENGINEERS WHO BUILT THIS RED AIRCRAFT ARE LIVING PROOF OF THE UNDYING DREAM OF CAPT. PANFILO V. VILLARUEL JR. TO HAVE AN AIRCRAFT MANUFACTURING IN THE PHILIPPINES OF WHICH WE CAN SAY...A FILIPINO MADE AIRPLANE......AND THAT IS THE DEFIANT 300.

"SAYANG KUNG NAGKAROON LANG SANA NG TIWALA, TULUNGAN AT SAMAHAN ANG ATING GOBYERNO SA KAKAYAHAN FILIPINO, SIGURO BY THIS TIME AY MAY MGA EROPLANO NA TAYONG LUMILIPAD NA MASASABING GAWA NATIN".

Welcome to the forum norlindo.  beer

There are actually other members of that FEATI/PATTS team on the forum as well who shared details of the project. You may find their contributions to the forum here:
